Whirligig Park Director/Arts Innovation Coordinator
Working under the direction of the City of Wilson Planning & Community Revitalization Director, this full time Arts Innovation Coordinator position serves as the director to the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Parks & Museum (VSWP&M) nonprofit organization and is responsible for pioneering initiatives to retain and grow private and public investment using arts innovation to spur community based economic development and creative placemaking.
Visitors Center Coordinator
The Visitors Services Coordinator is a full-time position that includes responsibilities related to donor engagement, staffing the welcome center, scheduling tours and field trips and managing educational components for visitors. In addition, The Visitor Services Coordinator will assist the Executive Director with projects, programs, events and various tasks.
Park Event Coordinator
Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park & Museum is in search of a Park Events Coordinator. A part time position that will assist in overseeing park rentals. Meeting potential renters and walking them through various options and resources needed.
Position: Visitors Services Coordinator
Description:
The Visitors Services Coordinator is a full-time position that includes responsibilities related to donor engagement, staffing the welcome center, scheduling tours and field trips and managing educational components for visitors. In addition, The Visitor Services Coordinator will assist the Executive Director with projects, programs, events and various tasks.
The Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park & Museum is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization created to design, build, program, and promote a unique new park in the heart of Historic Downtown Wilson, which serves as an arts & science-driven economic development engine, vibrant community gathering space, and tourism driver. The 30 massive, wind-driven kinetic sculptures designed and built by the renowned artist, Vollis Simpson, have been renovated and conserved to serve as the centerpiece of the new park. The non-profit will retain long term ownership and maintenance responsibilities of the artwork collection and works in partnership with the City of Wilson to construct, promote and program this public park. The Whirligig Park project has received national recognition, funding, and or partnerships from prestigious organizations such as the National Parks Service, Smithsonian, National Endowment for the Arts, Kohler Foundation, ArtPlace America, the North Carolina Arts Council, the North Carolina Department of Commerce, and the City of Wilson, among others.
VSWPM Donor Engagement:
Work with VSWPM Fundraising committee on projects and event planning.
Oversee membership campaign mailings. Manage organization donor database and email database. Create quarterly e-newsletter and distribution.
VSWPM Hospitality:
Assist Executive Director with operations of welcome center and museum. Greeting guests and disseminating information to visitors about VSWPM organization, activities and events. Scheduling and managing front desk reception volunteers. Assisting with public tour requests, scheduling volunteer tour guides and, occasionally, leading tours.
Educational Programming:
Training volunteer tour guides on educational activities. Scheduling field trips and tours of the park and welcome center. Coordinating educational activities for visitors and groups. Monitoring and restocking supplies for educational activities. Assisting in the development of additional educational activities and programming.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Archiving and filing articles, ads, and listings concerning VSWPM. Keeping event calendars current. Assisting with media relations. Other administrative tasks as assigned.
Position Details:
This position generally works an eight hour schedule, 5-day work week, Tuesday through Saturdays. Staffing support in the evening is occasionally required for rentals, events and programs.

The Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park & Museum nonprofit organization provides an excellent working environment as well as benefits. $12 – $17 an hour, commensurate with experience.

The Ideal Candidate:
- Will have a strong interest in the arts and the importance of art in the community
- Should be proficient with Microsoft Office, internet, and e-mail
- Must be reliable, able to stay on task, and work independently and as a part of a team
- Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail necessary to balance a variety of related tasks
- Must have excellent communication and relationship building skills with demonstrated ability to work well with diverse audiences
- A flexible work schedule
- The ability to work as part of a creative team, to build and maintain strong relationships with visitors, the community, volunteers and coworkers
- Ability to develop relationships with local partners and fund-raise
- Be capable of lifting, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs
